Braden Holtby will be taking to Washington D.C.’s streets in support of the LGBT community.The Capitals goaltender and Vezina Trophy finalist is walking in D.C.’s as part of the NHL’s You Can Play initiative, the team announced on Tuesday.MORE: I am honored to represent the Capitals and participate in this important event that shines light on the Andrew Sendejo Jersey contributions the LGBT community makes every day, said Holtby in a release. I believe in equality for all people and I look forward to showing my support along with our organization and fans.Holtby and the rest of the D.C. sports Darius Leonard T Shirts contingent, which includes Capitals mascot Slapshot and cheerleaders for the NBA’sWashington Wizards cheerleaders, will also be wearing #rocktherainbow t-shirts, a play on the Capitals’ #rockthered slogan.The You Can Play campaign began in 2012 following the death of Brendan Burke, son of NHL executive Brian Burke. Brendan was a student manager for the Miami Jacoby Brissett T Shirts (Ohio) men’s hockey team when he came out and planned to pursue a career in hockey. He was killed in a car accident in 2010 at age 21, and thecampaign was launched in his honor by his brother Patrick and two co-founders with a mi sion to eliminate homophobia and discrimination in sports.The NHL partnered with T.J. Carrie Jersey the campaign in 2013 and has received support from every team in the league. Players have been featured in PSAs and have participated in Pride Parades in NHL cities.
